I've got to believe that there are some people out there that would be interested in joining a gym if they could have something to do with the kids. Yes, I know that some of the larger gyms have play areas for the kids... but they typically have litte to no supervision, are mixed in with all ages, may not be kept clean and you get charged for using them... what an DEAL!
So, why not borrow from the private workout area talked about earlier and setup a private workout room with a low, clear wall divider between the workout equipment and a simple play area for kids. Include activity tables for toddlers, a TV with VCR / DVD and a PlayStation, a play house for the bigger kids and even some bean bag chairs. You can figure out what all to include, just go to any pediatrician's office and see what they have there to keep the kids distracted.
No more excuses about not going to workout because the kids are off for the summer, or the spouse isn't home to watch the kids... take them with you and let them play. Maybe they'll see that a healthy lifestyle can be fun.
